Dr. Cosmas Rono, a lecturer in the physics department at the University of Eldoret, has passed away. The tragic news was shared by his son, Ronnie Ronno, on Facebook. Ronnie disclosed that Dr. Cosmas passed away yesterday (June 30, 2023) at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital after a brief illness.
“It is with profound sorrow that I convey my heartfelt condolences on the loss of my beloved father, Dr. Cosmas Ronno, a member of the physics department at the University of Eldoret. On June 30th, at MTRH, he succumbed to a short illness. During this difficult time, we request your prayers and support as we mourn his passing,” wrote Ronno on Facebook.
Many of his former students expressed their shock and grief in the comments section. Noeline Maru, one of his students, mourned him as a dedicated and hardworking lecturer who taught modern physics for 34 years.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of our Physics Lecturer, Dr. Cosmas Rono’s passing. He was a committed and diligent teacher who never missed a lecture. His passion for teaching was evident, and despite his age, he would rise early and be ready to impart knowledge,” she wrote.
Prior to his tenure at the University of Eldoret, Dr. Cosmas Rono served as a teacher at Alliance High School. Burial arrangements are currently being made. A fundraising event will take place on Wednesday, July 5th, before the burial, which is scheduled for Friday, July 7th, at his residence in Mti Moja Chepsiria farm.
