Three businessmen who were taken hostage in Kumba regain their freedom after the payment of a ransom of 12 million FCFA. The hostages were initially 4 in number. They were taken hostage on their way to Douala. Transported to Ediki, in the Mbonge district, the businessmen were guarded for a while in the bush by heavily armed men.
Among the hostages were, according to MMI, the owner of a popular snack bar in Kumba and a wine shop. The other hostages also owned private business premises in Fiango. One of the kidnapped businessmen, he was able to escape at night. Testimonies reveal that he begged his captors for relief and a guard was sent to escort him. After taking a few steps away from the guard, he descended a slope and disappeared into the darkness.
The other three hostages were released after paying a ransom of 12 million FCFA, it says.
