A 35-year-old teacher named Aderonke Makinde, who works at Westgate Land Emperial Creche, Nursery and Primary School, has been brought before the Ogba Magistrates Court in the Ikeja area of Lagos State. She is accused of using a cane to beat a 9-year-old student, Oyinkansola Kayode, in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
The defendant is facing a single charge of assault before Magistrate E. Kubenje. The incident is said to have occurred on March 28, 2023, at the school located at No. 1 Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos State. The charge is in violation of Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
During the court proceedings, the Police prosecutor, Ajayi Kehinde, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (SP), informed the court of the defendant’s alleged offence. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
The case has been adjourned by Magistrate Kubenje until June 7, 2023.
