ASUU will not allow Chris Ngige to ridicule lecturers over the payment of half their salary for the month of October. Gbolahan Bolarin, the Chairman of ASUU at FUTMINNA, described the half salaries for the number of days they had worked as unfortunate and demeaning to the lecturers.
The chapter resolved to reject in totality the reduction of Nigerian scholars to casual workers and any attempts by Ngige to destroy public universities under any guise. He will not be allowed to ridicule Nigerian lecturers who are among the best in the world, said Bolarin.
The half salary was an insult as the Federal Government is pushing the lecturers to shift the aggression on innocent students, and the union will resist it with everything it got.
The union had embarked on strike in February which was called off in October after eight months. ASUU declared a one-day protest in all chapters over the half-salary.
